Code 93 barcode symbology, an enhancement over code 39, developed in 1982 by Intermec Technologies. Code 93 is a continuous, variable length and alphanumeric symbology capable of encoding 47 characters which includes full set of ASCII characters.

Code 93 is not self checking and also renowned with other names including ANSI/AIM Code 93, ANSI/AIM Code 93, Uniform Symbology Specification Code 93, USS Code 93, USS 93, Code 9/3, USS-93, USD-3, Code 93 Extended, and Code 93 Full ASCII.

Character set of Code 93 barcode symbology

The character set of Code 93 barcode symbology contains 47 characters:

• Digits (0-9)

• Uppercase Characters (A-Z)

• Special Characters including space, minus (-), period (.), dollar sign ($), slash (/), percent (%) and plus (+)

• 5 special characters comprises of   and

Symbol is used to represent start/stop characters. The other four special characters combine with other characters to show all 128 ASCII characters.

Structure of Code 93 symbology

Code 93 barcode symbology has the following structure:

• A start character –

• Encoded message

• First check character "C"

• Second check character "K"

• Stop Character -

• Termination bar

Each character of Code 93 is separated into nine modules including three bars & three spaces and each symbol contains two check characters.
