EAN 8 (European Article Number 8) barcode symbology is derived from EAN 13 barcode capable of encoding 7 digits of numeric data alongwith a check digit. EAN 13 was developed by the International Article Numbering Association (EAN) in Europe.

Structure of EAN 8 symbology

EAN 8 structure consists of 8 numbers (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0) in which three are digits prefix, four digits used for article identification and the remaining one is Check digit (Calculated according to Modulo 10).
