UPC-E symbol has the following parts:
- Start guard bars, always contains a sample bar+space+bar.
- Left bisect, five digits calculated from the corresponding UPC number.
- Stop guard bars, always includes an example bar+space+bar.
The structure of UPC E comprises of a beginning zero followed by numbers from 0-9 with two bars & two spaces and finally a check digit (calculated according to modulo 10).
